Open Chat
The chat window is where you interact with TabMail’s AI assistant. Open it with a simple keyboard shortcut.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Platform | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| macOS | Command + Option + L |
| Windows / Linux | Ctrl + Alt + L |
You can also click the TabMail icon in Thunderbird’s toolbar and select “Chat”.
Persistent conversations
Your conversation with TabMail is continuous — when you close and reopen the chat window, your previous messages are right where you left them. If you’ve been away for a while, TabMail will greet you with a welcome-back message and any relevant reminders.
Older messages are automatically trimmed from the active window over time to keep conversations efficient, but they remain searchable through memory.
What you can do in chat
Once the chat window is open, simply start typing your query and the agent will respond. For example:
- Search your emails — “Show me emails from Sarah about the project proposal”
- Get summaries — “Summarize my conversation with John from last week”
- Draft replies — “Help me reply to this email declining the meeting”
- Manage your calendar — “What meetings do I have tomorrow?”
- Ask questions — “Do I have any unread emails from my manager?”
TabMail understands natural language, so just ask like you’re talking to a colleague.
Tips for better results
- You can refer to various emails/calendar events/contacts using the @ mention syntax. Try typing @!
- Be specific about what you’re looking for
- Reference people by name when possible
- Include time frames (“last week”, “this month”) to narrow results
- You can reference the currently selected email — “summarize this” works when you have an email selected
