Install & Sign In
Getting started with TabMail takes just a few minutes.
Requirements
- Thunderbird v145 or later — If Thunderbird is not installed, the TabMail installer can download and install the official Mozilla Thunderbird build
- A TabMail account — You’ll create one during setup
Installation methods
Recommended: Installer (One-click install)
The easiest way to get started is using our installer, which will:
- Install Mozilla Thunderbird if you don’t have it (official build downloaded from Mozilla)
- Install the TabMail add-on directly into your Thunderbird profile
- Set up the required native search helper
- Download the installer from the download page
- macOS: Download the
.pkgfile (works on Intel & Apple Silicon) - Windows: Download the
.exefile (Windows 10 & 11)

- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions
- Sign in — A sign-in prompt will appear when you first open Thunderbird. Create an account or log in with your existing credentials.
Expert: Manual installation
If you already have Thunderbird installed or prefer manual control:
- Download the add-on from the download page (switch to “Manual” tab)
- Download
tabmail-latest.xpi
- Download
- Install the add-on:
- Open Thunderbird
- Go to Tools → Add-ons and Themes (or press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + A)
- Click the gear icon ⚙️ and select “Install Add-on From File…”
- Select the downloaded XPI file
- Install the Full-Text Search Helper (required):
- macOS/Linux: Run

- Sign in — A sign-in prompt will appear. Create an account or log in with your existing credentials.
Verifying the installation
After installation, you should see:
- A TabMail icon in Thunderbird’s toolbar
- Tags appearing on emails as TabMail analyzes them
To check your signin status:
- Click the TabMail icon in the toolbar to open the popup
- The popup will show your signin status and account information
Once signed in, TabMail will begin indexing your emails in the background. This runs locally and may take a few minutes depending on your inbox size.
