Prompts
Prompts let you shape how TabMail writes and thinks. By editing your prompts, you can change the agent’s tone, define rules for inbox classification, and provide personal context it should always keep in mind.
What prompts control
TabMail uses three types of prompts:
| Prompt | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email Composition | Writing style, tone, greeting/sign-off preferences, and example replies. |
| Action Classification | Rules for when an email should be tagged Reply, Archive, or Delete. |
| Knowledge Base | Personal context the agent should remember (your role, key contacts, ongoing projects). |
Opening Prompts
Click the TabMail icon in Thunderbird’s toolbar, then select Prompts.
Tips for effective prompts
- Be specific — “Use a formal tone with external clients” works better than “be professional.”
- Describe outcomes — Tell TabMail what you want to achieve, not just the action.
- Start simple — Add a few rules, see how they work, then refine.
- Review periodically — As your work changes, update your prompts so the agent stays accurate.
Privacy
Your prompts are stored locally in Thunderbird. When you invoke the agent, prompts are sent for processing but are not retained. You can always disable AI features at any time with a single toggle in your settings. For more details, see Privacy Policy.
